Product info

Midland Lead Code 7 Roofing Lead Flashing Roll is a premium cast lead sheet made to BBA quality approval (BBA 86/1764) and is the ideal material to use for flashings and weatherproofing. Lead is highly resistant to corrosion and fully malleable, which makes it easy to use and ideal as a weatherproofing material. Also, because lead is heavy, it doesn’t run the risk of lifting in high winds - unlike its non-lead alternatives.

Code 7 roofing lead has a thickness of 3.15mm and is suitable for a variety of applications including flat and pitched roofing, vertical cladding, parapet, box and tapered valley gutters, bay tops and canopies and more.

With a life-expectancy of well beyond 100 years, Midland Lead premium cast lead is also manufactured with responsibly sourced materials including recycled lead only which makes it a highly sustainable building material.

Don't forget to apply patination oil to lead to avoid white staining (oxidisation) and it also adds sheen to the lead. Midland Lead accessories are delivered free when ordered with lead flashing.

What Is Machine Cast Lead?

It is produced by dipping a rotating water-cooled drum into a bath of molten lead. The sheet is formed on the immersed section of the drum and peels off at the top. It is wound into spools before being cut into sheet rolls.

Please Note: To avoid thermal expansion and contraction issues, individual flashing pieces must not exceed 1.5m in length. Due to temperature fluctuations, regular spaced expansion joints must be used.

Help & Advice

What is the difference between machine cast and rolled lead?

The only real difference is the way they’re made. But there is no difference in the quality of the lead (both are made to the same BS specification), and the difference in appearance is barely noticeable. And they are both as easy to work with as the other.

What size and code is most commonly used in construction?

Code 4 is most commonly used, and Code 5 is used in some cases. Most rolls are purchased in 6m lengths, and common widths are between 150mm - 450mm.

Our guide to choosing the right lead code can help you decide.

What you need to know

Delivery charges

  • The delivery charge will be shown in the checkout.
  • If the delivery is missed for any reason, you will be billed again for the re-delivery. See below: failed deliveries.

Delivery access

  • Midland Lead products are delivered on pallets with an 18-ton vehicle with tail lift. They are offloaded by the driver with a pump truck to the kerb, so we cannot deliver on gravel or mud. If you have a gravel drive the driver will only be able to leave goods at the closest hard surfaced area.
  • Our sales office will need to be made aware of any delivery restrictions, such as narrow lanes, overhanging trees etc. that may cause restrictions.
  • You must make our sales office aware of these restrictions or the delivery may fail. Smaller vehicles (7.5 ton) can be arranged as a special requirement please be aware this can cause delays as there are far fewer available and further charges may apply.
  • If you have a grass or gravel drive it will not be possible to leave the goods without someone being in attendance.

Date and time of delivery

  • We will advise a delivery date range to you by email, and your order will be delivered directly to you from Midland Lead. You can track your delivery via our haulier’s online portal, using your SL reference provided by Midland Lead on receipt of order - Walkers Transport Consignment Tracking (walkers-transport.co.uk).
  • Delivery will arrive between 8.30am–5pm, if you cannot be there to accept the delivery, you will need to re-arrange delivery 24 hours in advance of expected delivery date (charges may apply). Alternatively, we can deliver your order without you being present, however, you would need to confirm in writing where to leave the pallet, as well as accepting full responsibility for the goods. Otherwise, your delivery will fail and further charges will apply. If the delivery is required at a certain time of the day an additional fee will apply.

Failed deliveries are chargeable

  • Dependant on area and delivery service requested, a re-delivery charge per pallet will apply, chargeable by the supplier Midland Lead for all failed deliveries.
  • If you cannot be present, it is important to notify us at least 24 hours in advance, alternatively, you can request that the delivery is made without your presence, however, Midland Lead will accept no responsibility for any damages / losses. Written notice must be given prior to the delivery.
  • If you have a gravel drive it will not be possible to leave the goods without someone being in attendance.

Damages & missing items

  • All damaged or missing items should be reported to the driver and signed for as damaged or missing, wherever possible.
  • Contact Roof Giant within 24 hours with all details so we can help you. If you wait too long, we may be unable to help.
  • Any damages must be photographed on the pallet as delivered and submitted along with your claim by email to sales@roofgiant.com.
  • We will not accept any claims that have photos of goods not on the pallet as delivered as we cannot prove to the transporter that the damage was caused during transit.

Do not install purchased items if you have a query with the product (e.g. if you need to query damage that occurred during transit).

  • If an item is installed it will not be refunded or replaced.
