The Hargreaves Foundry Premier Extra Cast Iron Plain Half Round Internal Drop End is a high quality, hardwearing and traditional drainage component used at the end of your gutter lengths to stop and direct water into a downpipe. Ideally suited to classic, heritage or period properties, The Hargreaves Foundry offers a market-leading range of gutters, pipes, fittings and hoppers plus a huge collection of made-to-order cast iron products and infinite bespoke possibilities.
Used for centuries, cast iron rainwater components are designed to last as long as the building itself and will outlast inferior rainwater system components. Cast iron is also 100% recyclable and will not degrade into micro particles like plastics.
Hargreaves' strong, long-lasting and reliable cast iron gutter and downpipe components are manufactured and fully compliant with the BS 460 requirements given for cast iron rainwater systems used on buildings.
What are the primary advantages of installing cast iron?
Cast iron is unrivalled in terms of durability and strength. It is highly resistant to physical impact, heavy snow loads, and even vandalism. When properly maintained, these systems are known to protect a home for over a century.
How does cast iron compare to plastic gutters?
While uPVC may be cheaper initially, cast iron is a superior long-term investment. It does not warp or go brittle due to UV exposure or extreme temperature fluctuations. It also offers a premium aesthetic that significantly enhances the "kerb appeal" and value of a property.
Is cast iron an eco-friendly choice?
Yes. It is one of the most sustainable building materials available. It is 100% recyclable, often manufactured from recycled scrap, and its incredible lifespan means it doesn't need to be replaced every few decades like plastic, drastically lowering its carbon footprint.
Can these systems be used on historic or listed buildings?
Cast iron is the "go-to" material for heritage, listed, and period properties. Because the profiles can be custom-moulded to replicate original 18th or 19th-century designs, they satisfy strict conservation requirements while maintaining the building's architectural integrity.
What finishes and colours are available?
Hargreaves offers a variety of finishes to suit your project timeline:
If you are interested in any of these finishes, please contact the Roof Giant sales team.
Can I customise the look of my drainage?
Yes. Beyond standard pipes, Hargreaves offer ornamental hopper heads that can be customised with dates or decorative emblems to add a unique, personal touch to your home.
Please get in touch with the Roof Giant sales team for more information.
What are the requirements for a successful installation?
Cast iron is heavy and requires sturdy fixing using fascia or rafter brackets.
How much maintenance is required?
Maintenance is straightforward. You should clear out leaves and debris at least twice a year to prevent blockages. Depending on your local climate, a fresh coat of paint every 5 to 10 years will keep the system looking new and prevent surface rust.
