Product Information

What is thermal fracture?

In simple terms, thermal stress fracture occurs (very rarely) because one area of glass is heated faster than another area of the glass – this ‘heated’ area will expand, while the ‘cooler’ area will not – causing expansion/compression forces and resulting in the glass ‘fracturing’. In reality it is quite a complex scientific process and there are many factors that increase/decrease the risk of thermal fracture. It is important to understand the implications of thermal stress and more information can be found on our website.

How high does an upstand need to be?

A rooflight upstand must be 150mm above the roof surface at it's lowest point. em.curb proprietary curbs are compatible with almost our entire range and ensure rapid, airtight and watertight rooflight installation.

What about cleaning and maintenance?

What warranty do you provide?

Our rooflights have an expected life of at least 25 years and are guaranteed for 10 years. For full details of our comprehensive product warranties, please contact customer services.

Condensation

Condensation occurs where warm moist air meets cold surfaces. As warm air rises, the risk of condensation forming at rooflight level is relatively greater than at lower level. The risk can be minimised by specifying thicker glazing/more glazing skins and em.curb insulated upstands. The provision of ventilation may also assist. However, because temperature and humidity levels are clearly beyond our control, no guarantee can be given against the formation of condensation.

Pre-Purchase

Do you have a site survey service?

We are very happy to visit a site to check measurements and review product suitability for larger scale orders/projects. Our survey team cover the entire UK and can provide condition surveys, quotes and roof plans if needed. However, in most cases we work to customers' measurements provided. We can offer telephone assistance or video call over WhatsApp to ensure correct measurements are being taken.

Is planning permission required?

In England and Wales, planning permission is not usually required for the installation of new rooflights, subject to the current limits and conditions stipulated by the government's Planning Portal under Schedule 2, Article 3, part 1 class C permitted development. However, we advise that you thoroughly research planning permission rules and building regulations prior to purchase.

Do you have an installation service?

Our full range of products are designed for easy installation. Full installation instructions are available for download from our website, and we have installation videos on our YouTube channel. For bespoke products and projects, we are able to offer installation services. Please call us to discuss your requirements. Our design team can offer guidance and advice. 

Delivery

How will my rooflight be packaged?

We want to ensure that our rooflights arrive exactly in the same condition as when they left our production facility. We take every precaution to ensure that units are not damaged during transportation. Most larger glass units will be shipped on a pallet. If goods are damaged in transit, the carrier’s note must be signed accordingly and Whitesales notified in writing within 3 days of receipt of goods. We cannot accept claims for damaged goods if they are signed for in good condition.

How do I store the rooflight?

If the unit/s are to be stored before installation the following points should be noted:

  1. care should be taken to ensure protective packaging is not ripped, as glazing could then be scratched
  2. units should be stored under cover

For glass only:

  1. units should be laid flat and not placed upright on their edge. Units should not be stacked
  2. units should not be stored in light/shade environments which could allow heating of one area of the unit (see thermal fracture FAQ)

Do you get the unit to my roof?

Unless specifically advised otherwise, products will be delivered and offloaded by the delivery driver and placed in a practical location within reasonable proximity to the vehicle. Please note the driver cannot move the product to point of installation or inside your building so please ensure you take note of the product weight and make appropriate arrangements to move it as required. Due to vehicle sizes used we may not be able to deliver to locations with restricted or narrow access.

Delivery charges

  • The delivery charge will be shown in the checkout.
  • If the delivery is missed for any reason, you will be billed again for the re-delivery. See below: failed deliveries.

Delivery access

  • Whitesales Ltd products are delivered on pallets on large vehicles/arctic. Please note the delivery driver will not manually offload or assist in manually offloading the products. The product will be delivered to kerb side only. 
  • Due to the size and/or weight of the Products, Whitesales Ltd strongly recommends that the products should be offloaded by a mechanical means, for example a forklift truck or crane. Alternatively, a vehicle mounted solution.e.g., HIAB should be employed. Mechanical offload can be organised by Whitesales Ltd for an additional cost, this will be agreed in writing. If required please confirm to Roof Giant when order is placed. 
  • Please ensure you have the correct number of people on site to unload the glass rooflight based on size and weight. Also make sure you have somewhere suitable to store the rooflights, timber or stillages cannot be used from the vehicle.

Date and time of delivery

  • We will advise a delivery date to you by email, and your order will be delivered directly to you from Whitesales Ltd.
  • Delivery will arrive between 7am-5pm, the driver should call with an ETA however this cannot be guaranteed. 

Failed deliveries are chargeable

  • You must be present to accept the delivery.
  • If we are unable to deliver due to not being present/unable to unload, then a re-delivery charge will be charged (cost dependant on location). 
  • Whitesales Ltd guarantee to re-deliver within 5 working days of the product being returned.

Damages & Missing items

  • All damages/items missing should, wherever possible, be reported to the driver and signed for as damaged/missing. Any damage to the product or delivery vehicle during the offloading process will be the customers responsibility. 
  • Contact Roof Giant within 24-48 hours with all details to enable Whitesales Ltd to resolve the issue. If you wait too long, we may be unable to help.

Do not install purchased items if you have a query with the product (e.g. if you need to query damage that occurred during transit)

  • If an item is installed it will not be refunded or replaced.

Delivery

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery charges will vary and will depend on the manufacturer, weight, size and delivery location. The cost is automatically calculated when you add items to the shopping basket.

How long will I wait for my delivery?

The estimated delivery times are shown on each product page, we will email you each step of the way to keep you informed. The majority of products can be delivered within 3-5 working days.We will advise you if the delivery period is different from than stated on our website.

Do you offer NEXT DAY delivery?

We currently do not offer next day delivery but hope to offer this soon. If you have a particular item that you require quicker than the guide on our website, please contact our sales team on 01858 455055 during office hours, they will be able to confirm whether a quicker delivery if possible.

What if my delivery doesn't turn up on time?

Do you offer FREE Delivery if I spend a substantial amount?

Not as standard, we show the delivery charges separate once you go to the checkout so it is clear what you are paying for the products and delivery costs. If you are ordering larger quantities please contact out sales team who will be able to confirm if this is possible.

Do you deliver on Weekends?

Not as standard, our deliveries are made Monday to Friday. If you do need an urgent Saturday delivery please contact out sales team on 01858 455055 during office hours who will be able to confirm. This will incur a premium charge if possible.

Do you deliver to Northern Ireland/Guernsey/The Scottish Highlands/Isle of Wight?

Yes, we do but our transport charges incorporated in the site do not cover these areas, please contact our sales team on 01858 455055 during office hours for costs; or we will contact you to make the additional payment once you have completed your online purchase.

REFUND POLICY

Returns

Important Note: Please do not send goods back to Roof Giant before speaking to the Roof Giant sales office. 

Roof Giant strongly recommend you take photographs of goods before returning. Occasionally goods are damaged during transit, therefore you may need to confirm the packaging/goods were intact (prior to collection) to the courier as part of the refund process.

As a consumer you have the right to change your mind (Consumer Regulations 2013). This right stipulates that for most products purchased online you have a legal right to change your mind within 14 days and receive a refund under the consumer contracts regulations 2013.

This right starts from the point you or someone you nominate receives the goods. If your goods are being delivered in multiple deliveries your right starts from the point the last delivery is received.

If you wish to exercise this right you must in the first instance contact us via phone 01858 455055 or email sales@roofgiant.com advising us of your wish to change your mind, its then your responsibility to arrange for the goods to be returned to us within 14 days of ending the contract.
