Product info

A concrete plain tile featuring variation in hanging length, irregular sides and subtle surface texturing finished with randomly applied fine sands which combine to create all the visual features of a handmade clay tile but at a fraction of the cost.

The range of colours has been carefully developed to offer real alternatives to the leading handmade clay tiles in the market.

And, as well as the quality, cost saving and aesthetic benefits, Heathland tiles embody far less CO 2 than their clay tile equivalents; good looks that cost you and the environment less.

Authority

Heathland Plain Tiles conform to BS EN 490: 2011 Concrete roofing tiles and fittings for roof covering and wall cladding - Product Specifications.

Variation in hanging length and linear cover is a purpose designed feature of this tile and therefore the relevant clauses of BS EN 490 do not apply.

Performance

Heathland Plain Tiles have been rigorously tested in the Group wind tunnel where combinations of high wind and driving rain are used to determine the tile performance with respect to wind loading and weathertightness. Tiles will meet all the requirements of BS 5534: 2014 Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles), providing Redland fixing recommendations are complied with.

  • Tiles are stacked by wedging a tile vertically behind a batten to create a platform for a stack of tiles
  • Tiles must be laid broken bond in a half bond pattern, but the side lap may be reduced to a minimum of a third of the width of the tile (55 mm) in some circumstances, e.g. curved roofing
  • Tiles must be hung on their nibs
  • Adjacent tiles should be laid with a nominal gap of 1.5 mm, maximum 3 mm
  • At eaves, use double courses with purpose made Eaves/Top Tiles for the undercourse.
  • At verges and abutments, use Standard Plain Tiles and Tile-and-a-Halves in alternate courses.
  • Adjacent to hips and valleys, use Tile-and-a-Halves for raking cuts.
  • At side abutments, allow for stepped flashing and soakers.
  • At top courses use double courses with purpose made Eaves/Top Tiles for the top course.
  • For Winchester Cuts use two Tile-and-a-Halves per course. This detail must not be used to abut roof pitches below 40°or in exposed locations. In these cases, use soldier or double soldier courses.
  • Individual tiles can be laid unfixed or nailed
  • Always refer to FixMaster for a BS 5534-compliant fixing specification
  • When nailing, two nails must be used per tile
  • With mortar bedded ridges and top edge abutments, since the Eaves/Top Tiles hang on the top course of tiles they are fixed to the tile below with Top Tile Clips
